What We've Been Up To

Over the last four months, Black Magic Animal Rescue has been working nonstop behind the scenes and out in the community to help cats and families throughout Casa Grande and surrounding areas. From medical emergencies and kitten season to TNR work, adoption events, community support, and program development, this season has reminded us exactly why our rescue exists — to step in for the animals who need someone the most.

Kitten season arrived quickly and heavily this year. We have taken in orphaned kittens, nursing moms, sick babies, and cats needing urgent care. Several kittens have required advanced medical treatment, including eye removals, ongoing vet care, medications, and close monitoring. Our volunteers and fosters have spent countless hours bottle-feeding, cleaning, socializing, medicating, transporting, and comforting animals who may not have had a chance without rescue support.

Our TNR and No More Litters Program have also remained a major focus. Over the past few months, we have continued helping community cats by trapping, fixing, vaccinating, and returning cats who are healthy enough to go back to their outdoor homes. Every cat fixed means fewer future litters, fewer sick kittens, and less strain on already overwhelmed rescues and shelters. We have also continued working on our TNR Depot so community members and volunteers have better access to humane traps and support when helping local cat colonies.

We have also been building more ways to support the people in our community. Our pet food pantry, community education efforts, adoption counseling, and rescue programs are all part of a larger goal: keeping pets safe, supported, and out of crisis whenever possible. Rescue is not only about taking animals in. It is also about helping families, educating the public, and creating long-term solutions that reduce suffering before it starts.

Adoption events have been another big part of our work. For several months, our team showed up with adoptable cats, supplies, merchandise, sign-up sheets, and information about our programs. These events gave our cats a chance to meet potential families and helped us connect with supporters in person. While we are still attending the Promenade Indoor Market on Saturdays, we are actively looking for a new place to host adoptions and community outreach. Something that is ours. That we can have adoptions throughout the week. Local retail spaces have been priced way out of our budget sadly, despite some of these buildings being empty for years.

Behind the scenes, our team has also been working on the foundation of the rescue itself. We have been developing new website content, organizing our programs, creating volunteer resources, planning fundraisers, designing educational materials, and improving how people can connect with us for adoptions, TNR help, donations, and community support. This kind of work is not always visible, but it is what helps the rescue grow in a sustainable way.

The last four months have been exhausting, emotional, and full of challenges. We have faced medical emergencies, canceled events, unexpected expenses, and the constant pressure of kitten season. But we have also seen cats heal, kittens grow stronger, community members step up, and supporters continue to believe in our mission.

Black Magic Animal Rescue is still here because of the people who foster, donate, volunteer, share our posts, attend our events, and trust us to keep going. Every bag of food, every dollar, every trap set, every adoption application, and every kind message helps move this rescue forward.

As we head into the next season, we are focused on finding new event locations, continuing our No More Litters Program, expanding community support, and giving more cats the chance to go from the streets to sanctuary.
